Costa Rica's performance in the 2022 World Cup

Many expected Costa Rica to have a better performance in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, the team led by Luis Fernando Suárez ended up leaving the international tournament very early, so shortly after the arrival of a new coach was announced: Argentine Claudio Vivas, former Sporting Cristal.

The presentation took place on Friday, January 13th, through the president of the Costa Rican Football Federation (FCF), Rodolfo Villalobos, who held a press conference to detail the functions that the former Sporting Cristal coach will have.

"Claudio will work in the present but also in the future. He will be in charge of the youth teams, although in the Federation we understand that players must arrive at the national teams with a certain training process. That is why he will work with the teams to help strengthen their youth league processes," said the president.

Claudio Vivas has joined the Costa Rican national team.

Furthermore, the 'Tico' football leader also stated that in the next month of March, the Argentine will present a work plan with the aim of taking advantage of the structure of the youth divisions.

Finally, Claudio Vivas took the floor to affirm that he is very happy to have arrived in Costa Rica to take on this role. Moreover, the coach also made it clear that his work will help the senior national team qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

"We start this task with a report on where we are and where we want to go. This work has the responsibility of harmonizing all parts of Costa Rican football to try to participate in all possible tournaments, but with a strong focus on the 2026 World Cup," he said.
