We are just a few days away from the start of the new Liga 1 season and one of the most excited to see Universitario de Deportes' campaign is Germán Leguía, who even mentioned that this 2023 will be the year they win their 27th star.

He made these statements in a recent interview, stating that what he saw in the 'Noche Crema' was enough to be sure that they have a team that will fight for the title.
"I saw several interesting young players, I've seen a very determined team and with a couple more games, I'm sure this is our year for the 27," he said on Radio Ovación.
Furthermore, the former executive of the crema team made it clear that one of the things that makes him believe in winning the championship is that there are several players who are fans of Universitario.
"I'm sure we're going to make it this year, we have a great team and I trust in this team, there are many guys there who are fans of Universitario and that is more important than anything," he explained.
Who does Universitario debut against in the Liga 1?
It should be noted that Universitario de Deportes will debut against Cienciano in the first match of the Liga 1 2023, a match scheduled for Monday, January 23 at the Estadio Monumental.
