Miguel Almirón in a sublime moment
When many thought that the World Cup break would take away from his level, Miguel Almirón has just shown the opposite. The Paraguayan forward started this new stage in the Premier League just as he had finished before the start of the 2022 Qatar World Cup: scoring and being key for Newcastle United, this time scoring the 2-0 against Leicester City.
The attacker only needed seven minutes to leave his mark in a match where the 'Magpies' were comfortably dominating thanks to the 1-0 scored by Chris Wood from the penalty spot (3'). After taking the ball down the right side, Almirón combined with Bruno Guimarães and magic happened.
The Brazilian, with his characteristic clarity, played a one-two pass with the 'Paraguayan' and he only had to enter the 'Foxes' area to have a shot at goal. When he saw the space, he just had to make a subtle touch for his shot to be impossible to save for Danny Ward.
Miguel Almirón in a sublime moment
Miguel Almirón is going through the best moment of his career and surely Newcastle United has started to calculate a possible sale. At the moment, his contract expires in June 2024 and they don't want him to leave for free when he can negotiate his transfer.
The Paraguayan already has nine goals in the current Premier League season and is proving that his game is at his most explosive moment. Perhaps this is the opportunity he has been waiting for to make the important leap to a big club, either in English football or in another league.
The forward, trained in Cerro Porteño, is 28 years old and is at the ideal age to no longer be just another player in the Premier League, and become one of the most important game-changers in European football. He arrived in the English league in the 2018-2019 season from Atlanta United and has never had as much exposure as he does now. Persistence pays off, as the saying goes.
