National Emergency: Social Gatherings Prohibited
In the midst of nationwide protests against the Congress of the Republic and the call for advancing elections, Defense Minister Alberto Otárola announced a national state of emergency for 30 days. This implies the reinstatement of security measures such as the prohibition of social gatherings.
The State of Emergency will be implemented throughout Peru for a period of 30 days, from this Wednesday, December 14, 2022, until next month, January 2023. This means that the Armed Forces will protect different areas of the country, such as airports and hydroelectric plants.

According to the Political Constitution of Peru, "During the National State of Emergency, the exercise of constitutional rights regarding personal freedom and security, inviolability of the home, and freedom of assembly and movement in the territory is restricted".
How many fatalities are recorded in the protests?
The Ministry of Health (Minsa) used its Twitter account to announce that there are 7 fatalities, 26 hospitalized, and 142 discharged nationwide.
