The Swiss national team demonstrated a better collective level in the match against Cameroon, for the first match of Group G of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, and managed to take the lead. At the beginning of the second half, Breel Embolo took care of inflating the nets and there was a special moment, given that he was born in Cameroonian soil.
The match on the Al Janoub Stadium turf in Al Wakrah was approaching 48 minutes and the European team had possession of the ball. Remo Freuler had possession, three-quarters of the field, and assisted Xherdan Shaqiri, who was free on the right side, with a favorable panorama to cross.
However, the midfielder surprised with a low assist towards the penalty spot, where Breel Embolo was unmarked. The forward, without much opposition, shot with violence and beat the resistance of goalkeeper Andre Onana.
The forward did not celebrate with his teammates, but raised his arms and then put his hands to his face, as a sign of apology to Cameroon, the country where he was born. Remember that the goalscorer lived in Switzerland and there he made his professional debut, wearing the Basel shirt.
