On Wednesday, March 30, 2016, the project known as Lucha Libre Elite, with the support of CMLL, resumes the original concept with which its promotions started: Liga Elite. This format - first carried out in 2014, which was cancelled and transformed into the well-known Domingos Elite due to different circumstances - as its name indicates, will be a tournament or league in which twelve renowned elements from the national and international lucha libre deck, from the CMLL company as well as independent gladiators, will compete for the Elite Heavyweight Championship.
This new stage in the Liga Elite marks a precedent in the history of national wrestling, since the events held every Wednesday starting from March 30 at the Arena México will be broadcast for open television on Fridays, starting from April 1 at 18: 00 hours (Central time), by TV Azteca under the name "Lucha Azteca".
Of the 12 wrestlers who will compete, only a few names have been officially announced, such as Cibernético, Zumbi, Xtreme Tiger, Máscara Dorada, Rush, and Bobby Lashley. Other participants such as Carístico, Volador Jr., Místico, Máximo, and Marco Corleone are still to be confirmed. Undoubtedly, the Liga Elite in its 2016 edition will be a project that holds many surprises.
