Hugo del Castillo has brought another joy to the Peru team competing in the Asunción 2022 South American Games. This Wednesday, the athlete won the taekwondo poomsae competition to take home the gold medal. Thus, the national team has already won its fourth gold medal of the tournament.
In the final, the Peruvian defeated the Colombian Isaac Vélez. The member of 'Team Peru' achieved a score of 7.5 compared to the 7.37 of the Colombian. Previously, Del Castillo had defeated the Ecuadorian Fernando Salgado in the semifinals with a score of 7.365 compared to the 7.32 of the northerner.
Thus, Hugo del Castillo won the gold medal and climbed to the top of the podium. The second place and silver medal went to Vélez Castaño. Finally, the third place and bronze medal were shared by Salgado Mujica and the Brazilian Alex Silva.
After the important achievement, the taekwondo athlete sent a message: "I am very happy for this accomplishment, we have won the gold medal in the South American Games for Peru. I am very grateful to all of you for your support", he expressed to the Peruvian Sports Institute.
Peru, four gold medals
Deyvid Tuesta, in skateboarding, was the first to win a first place for Peru in the South American Games. Then, María Luisa Doig, in fencing, defeated her competitors for the second gold medal. In yesterday's competition, Alexandra Grande, in karate, became the winner of the women's -61 kg competition.
