The arequipeño Jorge Lezama Yañez died during the Life Lima 42k marathon
Jorge Lezama Yañez, from Arequipa, died while competing in the Life Lima 42k marathon. The event took place on Sunday, September 11, and the organization informed about the incident through a statement.
“We regret to inform about the sensitive death of one of the runners who participated in today's competition. The participant collapsed, received primary care and was transferred by ambulance to the nearest medical center”. The letter was also shared by the Municipality of Miraflores.
In an interview with RPP, Jorge's father stated that the prosecutor filed a complaint for simple homicide. "I imagine that the prosecutor has found evidence of misconduct, especially in the medical care that should have been provided to my son. Apparently, what happened is that they did not attend to my son promptly, there are videos and photos that show that this is the case".
"For us, it is a surprise. My son always had medical check-ups, maybe more detailed specific studies, I don't know. But even so, I think that participants should be required to have a certificate that guarantees the safety of the competitors", he added.
