Real Madrid wants, without a doubt, a French superstar: Mbappé, forgotten

Spanish press this Sunday reports that French player Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig is being targeted by Real Madrid for the summer transfer market next year. How much would they pay?

Kylian Mbappé strongly linked to Real Madrid during the past months. Both Florentino Pérez and Carlo Ancelotti sought his services since January of this year. However, the French forward decided to renew with PSG until 2025, leaving a huge disappointment in the offices of Valdebebas. Time has passed and the Santiago Bernabéu prefers to forget about 'Donatello' and focus on the arrival of another French player for the summer transfer market of 2023: Christopher Nkunku.

According to the Spanish newspaper Don Balón, Real Madrid has been captivated by the goals and assists of the 24-year-old French midfielder and would like to add him to their team for the next season. Despite having other priorities in their agenda, such as Erling Haaland, the high-ranking officials will make an effort to bring the Frenchman in.

The aforementioned source explains that Real Madrid has known Nkunku for a long time. With the youth team of Paris Saint-Germain, the Frenchman came to Valdebebas to play in the UEFA Youth League (2015-2016 season). Since then, they have kept an eye on the RB Leipzig's current star.

The advantage for Real Madrid is that Nkunku is represented by Pini Zahavi, the same agent who represents the interests of David Alaba, another player from Valdebebas. The relationship between the football agent and President Florentino Pérez is very fluid, so the negotiations would be smoother.

It is worth mentioning that in recent months, Real Madrid has not been the only club linked to Nkunku. The former PSG player has also been linked to Chelsea, Juventus, and Manchester United. According to Transfermarkt, a specialized portal in player valuations, the native of Lagny-sur-Marne is valued at 47 million euros.

What signings did Real Madrid make for 2022-23?

So far, Real Madrid has made two official signings for the next season. The first one is Antonio Rüdiger, who came from Chelsea as a free agent. The German has signed a contract until 2026 and will earn 10 million euros per year. He will play as a central defender, displacing Alaba to the wing.

Another player who reinforces Madrid for the following season is Aurélien Tchouaméni. For 80 million euros, plus another 20 million in variables, the Frenchman came from AS Monaco to become Casemiro's future replacement. The future of the fourteen-time European champion is already underway.
