In 2011, Juan Aurich would achieve glory after defeating Alianza Lima in the final played at the National Stadium. What happened to the 'Cyclone' and its successful squad?

Juan Aurich won the Copa Peru in 2007 and returned to the First Division of Peruvian Football, the team from Chiclayo suffered in its early years and after establishing itself, it became one of the leading clubs in the tournament. In that same line, the 'Ciclón' achieved absolute success in the 2011 season as it was crowned National Champion after defeating Alianza Lima.

The team chaired by Edwin Oviedo made a significant investment to compete in the 2011 Torneo Descentralizado. In that year, the team was managed by Colombian Diego Umaña and they achieved good results match after match. This led them to play the finals against Alianza Lima, where they were crowned champions in the third match.

In the first leg, Alianza Lima won 2-1 in Chiclayo, the second leg belonged to Juan Aurich who won 1-0, and in the third and decisive final at the National Stadium, the 'Ciclón' won on penalties. That Chiclayo team was led on the field by Luis 'Cuto' Guadalupe, a defender who coined the popular phrase "faith, faith. Faith is the most beautiful thing in life."

Where is Juan Aurich currently playing?

After the golden years of Juan Aurich, the club lost its category in 2017 and since 2018 it has been playing in the Second Division of Peruvian Football. Year after year, the club has tried to return to the top category, but all their attempts have had no luck. They are currently in the bottom positions and it seems unlikely that they will play in the Liga 1 in 2023.
