Iván Santillán and his comments after the defeat of Universitario de Deportes vs. Cienciano.

No points in Cusco. Universitario de Deportes was defeated 1-0 by Cienciano in the sixth round of the 2022 Clausura Tournament of the Liga 1 with a goal by Carlos Beltrán. Iván Santillán spoke to the press and evaluated the game.

"A tough match, we knew that Cienciano is strong at high altitude. The first half was more for them, they had some chances. In the second half, we equalized the game, dominated, but couldn't equalize and we leave with the bitter feeling that we could have taken something from Cusco," Santillán considered.

The goal came from a corner kick executed by Kevin Sandoval. In the box, 'Che' Beltrán rose and headed the ball to beat goalkeeper José Carvallo.

For the Universitario player, "Cienciano scored from a set piece, they are strong here. After that, I don't know if they knew how to manage the game. We had some chances to score, but they didn't go in. I'm leaving with the effort of all my teammates, I'm calm about that."

Despite the defeat, Santillán believes that Universitario is performing at a good level : "We are doing things very well. Unfortunately, the results are not coming, but I am convinced that this will be reversed."

With this result, Cienciano moved to the top of the standings with 14 points, while Universitario is in ninth position with seven points. In the seventh round, the crema team will face Deportivo Binacional, while the cusqueños will travel to Lima to play against Sport Boys.
