Jonas Vingegaard conquered his first Tour de France title on Sunday on the Champs-Elysées, as a result of the Jumbo team's hegemonic dominance symbolized by the strength and talent of Belgian Wout van Aert. The 25-year-old Danish rider surpassed defending champion Tadej Pogacar, the clear favorite before the race.

Jonas Vingegaard conquered his first Tour de France title on Sunday after emerging victorious from a thrilling duel with defending champion Tadej Pogacar, the clear favorite before the race.

This victory is "simply enormous for me, it's incredible," said the visibly emotional Danish rider on the Champs-Elysées, thanking his team for their work: "We had a plan and we followed it to the letter, all my teammates surpassed themselves."

Spectacular, fast, and exhausting for the 135 survivors. The Tour, whose 21st and final stage was won by Belgian sprinter Jasper Philipsen, will remain in history for the new record average speed (42 km/h), the intensity of the daily battles, and also for being the first defeat of Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, the winner of the last two editions.

A big favorite at the start in Copenhagen on July 1st, the 23-year-old Slovenian justified his status throughout the first week and in the entry to the Alps.

Until the last five kilometers of the Col du Granon, the turning point in the middle of an austere high mountain setting and the takeover by his Danish rival, second in the 2021 Tour, who would not let go of the yellow jersey.

"My team and I made many small mistakes. I have learned a lot on this Tour," admitted Pogacar, who hopes to maintain his brave spirit and remain true to his offensive style of racing.

Vingegaard, on the other hand, also made mistakes and narrowly avoided crashes on several occasions. But he recovered with the help of his team and above all of a loyal and omnipresent Van Aert.
