About the long-term effects of brain concussions
The information that is now known about the long-term effects of brain concussions has changed the fight. If this information had existed twenty years ago, ECW would have disappeared before becoming notorious and the Attitude era would have been much less violent.
As we have already mentioned, Daniel Bryan's retirement could just be the tip of the iceberg, as with new medical techniques to detect injuries, many athletes could say goodbye to their careers early in exchange for a longer and fuller life.
And soon it will be common to hear that some Superstar is forced to retire, and according to Richard Gray, of Wrestling News World, the next one could be Tyson Kidd:
"Tyson Kidd continues to rehabilitate waiting to return to the ring, but WWE officials have resisted the idea of giving him the go-ahead. No decisions have been made and it is still too early to know what will happen, but WWE's medical staff has told the company that they may never clear him to return to wrestling, although Tyson is absolutely determined to return to the ring."
Gray adds that if WWE did not want to take a risk with a top star like Bryan, it is less likely that they will do it with someone of mid-card like Tyson Kidd.
