Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas secured his presence in the main draw of Roland Garros, after coming back and defeating Chilean Nicolás Jarry in the final round of qualifying.

Juan Pablo Varillas (ATP: 122) had an impressive duel against Chilean Nicolás Jarry (ATP: 138) in the final round of the Roland Garros qualifier. Finally, the Peruvian tennis player staged a comeback and emerged victorious after an intense tie-break, securing a historic qualification to the Grand Slam in Paris.

The match was very close from the start, although our national number one was more precise and took a two-point lead in the first set (5-3), which seemed to put him ahead in the series. However, the Chilean reacted, taking advantage of his opponent's service loss, and staged a comeback, winning by 5-7.

In the second set, the circumstances started unfavorably for Varillas: he was falling behind at 0-2. However, Juan Pablo responded in the best possible way, narrowing the gap and reaching a partial score of 4-4, so he had to maintain his rhythm to even the match.

Finally, the goal was achieved and 'Juanpi' won 6-4, which meant that the winner of the qualifier had to be defined in the third set. Once again, there was parity in the match and although Nicolás Jarry had a favorable score of 2-4, he couldn't impose his conditions and the story ended with an exciting 6-6, leading to a tie-break.

During this tense round, Juan Pablo showcased his quality, excelled with his serve, and took advantage of the three service losses by the Chilean. The Peruvian tennis player extended his lead and closed with an emphatic 10-5, securing his spot in the main draw of the Roland Garros. It's worth mentioning that this is the first time Varillas will compete in a Grand Slam in his career, and the last Peruvian to participate in such a tournament was Luis Horna in Wimbledon 2008.
