Alexia Sotomayor has raised the name of our country high. The national swimmer once again demonstrated her talent at the Sudamericano Juvenil de Deportes Acuáticos Peru Bicentenario 2021, after winning another gold medal in the 50-meter backstroke event, with a time of 29.98 seconds, during the competition held at the modern Aquatic Center, managed by the Proyecto Legado.

In this way, the 15-year-old athlete concludes her participation in the individual events of the international competition, adding her third gold medal, a day after winning the silver medal in the 50-meter freestyle. Also a gold medalist in the 100 and 200-meter backstroke events, Alexia Sotomayor will continue to improve her performance, with the aim of stepping on the podium at the upcoming Junior Pan American Games in Cali 2021.

She belongs to Peru's golden generation of swimmers, who dream of representing the country in the Olympic Games.

"I feel happy to continue winning medals for my country. I believe that the immense infrastructure we now have will be very useful for us, who seek to compete at the international level," said Alexia Sotomayor, who competed at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games at only 13 years old.

The Sudamericano de Deportes Acuáticos will conclude on Saturday, November 13, after two weeks of tough competition, with the support of the audience in the stands, following the biosecurity protocols established by the Ministry of Health (MINSA), thanks to the coordinated work between the Peruvian Swimming Sports Federation and the Proyecto Legado.

A total of 450 athletes from 13 countries competed at the Aquatic Center, which maintains its Pan American conditions, due to its specialized maintenance with modern technology. During the weeks of competition, nearly 500 athletes stayed in the accommodations managed by Legado, located at the VIDENA Athletic Stadium and the High-Performance Center in Punta Rocas.

This guaranteed the maintenance of a bubble, within the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic. Legado's efficient experience as an infrastructure manager and organizer of world-class sports events will allow Peru to continue hosting major international competitions at the venues built for the Lima 2019 Games, which remain active for high performance.

The Proyecto Legado Juegos Panamericanos y Parapanamericanos will continue to collaborate with the different federations in the country, in order to promote high-performance sports, providing first-class infrastructure and their extensive experience in management and organization.
