Alexia Sotomayor won a gold medal in the 100-meter backstroke swimming.

Alexia Sotomayor was the protagonist of the South American Youth Aquatic Sports Championship. The national representative excelled in the 100 meters backstroke swimming and won the gold medal, another success for the country.

During the competition held on Tuesday, the Peruvian athlete achieved a time of 1:04.02, but she wasn't the only one. The Argentinean Candela Raviola had established the same duration in her previous performance, which is why both were awarded.

The two competitors won the gold medal, while the podium was completed by the Chilean Martina Roper, who won the silver medal by finishing in second place, and the Ecuadorian Andrade Villegas won the bronze, finishing in third place.

It is worth mentioning that it was not the only joy for Alexia Sotomayor during this day of trials: The Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD) reported that she had obtained the South American record during the qualifying stage, with a time of 1:03.98. The swimmer, part of the Athlete Support Program (PAD), had a memorable day.
