The idea of a dream match between CM Punk and an established UFC fighter was something that many fans dreamed about in the first few weeks after the former WWE champion signed with the MMA company. But it quickly became clear that, unlike Brock Lesnar, Punk could not compete and defeat the best in the world, and his debut became a recurring joke.
It soon became accepted that Punk should debut against someone with a similar level of experience, which is nothing. For this, Dana White, the president of UFC, began a search that was recorded in the reality show Looking for a Fight.
From there, a prospect emerged: Mickey Gall, who has an amateur record of 3-0 and a professional record of 1-0.
Today, Dana White confirmed that Gall is indeed the chosen one, but before fighting Punk he will have a fight in UFC:
This is what he told Michael Landsberg of TSN:
“I'm going to bring in Mickey Gall and put him in a fight against a guy named Michael Jackson. They will fight on the preliminaries of February 6th, on Fight Pass, and if Mickey wins that fight, he will face CM Punk... CM Punk will be present that day to watch the fight.”
The event on February 6th is UFC 196: Werdum vs. Velasquez 2, and in Latin America the preliminaries can be watched live through UFC Network.
