After it was revealed that 11 players from Universitario de Deportes tested positive for coronavirus, the cream team confirmed that four more players have contracted the deadly disease after undergoing the respective screening tests.
Through a statement on their social networks, the Merengues announced this news, while ensuring that the affected players are currently fulfilling the respective home isolation:
"From the results that have been provided to us, to this day, it is known that four workers are asymptomatic positive for COVID-19. It should be mentioned that these molecular antigen tests have been carried out by personnel from our sponsor Inmunimed Laboratory Clinic."
In response to this, Universitario revealed that they have already taken the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the disease among the rest of their squad, coaching staff, assistants, collaborators, and equipment managers.
"Due to this, the affected individuals will remain in home confinement, following the respective treatment and being observed daily by our medical department, in compliance with the protocols approved by the Ministry of Health, IPD, and FPF."
It is worth remembering that, after learning about this series of infections, Universitario asked the Liga 1 to suspend their match for round 3 against UTC de Cajamarca. In response to this, the FPF provided a response to the request made by the Peruvian team.
"With this, the Professional Football League has decided to cancel the programming of the match between Club Universitario de Deportes and Club Universidad Técnica de Cajamarca (UTC) for round 3 of the Liga 1 Betsson 2021".
And finally: "As indicated by the Medical Commission, the mentioned report will be submitted to the Disciplinary Commission of the FPF for resolution according to their attributions".
