At Least Ten People Injured in Dakar Rally Accident
At least ten people were injured after being run over by a car participating in the 2016 Dakar Rally. The incident took place on Route 8, on the way to Arrecifes, where the day's competition called "prologue" was finishing.
A Mini Cooper car with the number 360, driven by Chinese pilot Guo Meiling, veered off the road and ran over a group of spectators who were watching from the side of the route in a designated viewing area.
Eight ambulances arrived at the scene and transported the victims to Santa Francisca Hospital in Arrecifes. After this unfortunate accident, the Dakar organizers decided to suspend the day's events.
