The long-term plans of WWE changed a lot during 2015, as NXT, a brand that was created as a developmental territory, became extremely popular, and its specials received better reviews than conventional PPVs.

NXT will begin touring throughout the United States in 2016, so their shows at the Full Sail University in Florida could be less frequent.

Thus, WWE is achieving another brand, but at the cost of losing its developmental territory. It was expected that the company led by Vince McMahon would announce a partnership with EVOLVE, where they have already sent some talents, but for unspecified reasons, the idea has not been followed up.

But could WWE take up an idea from the 90s? In 1998, with Víctor Quiñones as a mediator, WWE wanted to make CMLL a developmental territory. In Arena Mexico, WWE rookies would train and stars such as The Undertaker and Steve Austin would appear every month. They had the same idea a year earlier with AAA, but since this company did not have a talent development program, they opted for CMLL, which at that time was creating its modern style through the called Grupo Cibernético, directed by Negro Casas and Memo Díaz.

Although initially CMLL accepted (WWE sent Gigante Silva and Kurrgan, while CMLL allowed several of their talents to work on the program WWF Los SuperAstros), relations soon cooled down due to almost non-existent communication (CMLL would procrastinate and not return their calls). Jim Ross, then in charge of talent, suggested using an alternative company, and the chosen one was Ohio Valley Wrestling, which achieved great results from the year 2000 onwards. Obviously, the idea of doing business with Mexican companies was abandoned.

Those who thought, because of the title, that this is an April Fools' joke, are correct... But the "joke" only stayed in the title, since the rest is 100% true.

What would have happened if WWE and CMLL had continued working together?
