Rome -

The Ineos Grenadiers team, where the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz plays, pocketed a total of 430,693 euros (505,499 dollars) thanks to their triumphant Giro d'Italia, and 314,781 of them (369,455) were the merit of the British Tao Geoghegan Hart, who was crowned champion in the final time trial held last Sunday in Milan.

Geoghegan Hart snatched the victory from the Australian Jai Hindley (Sunweb) in the final time trial, and that victory allowed Ineos to pocket an additional 181,928 euros, according to data calculated by Cyclingnews, which is the difference between first and second place overall, plus 20,000 euros (23,474 dollars) for winning the best young rider classification, 2,000 euros for the pink jersey, and 750 for the white jersey.

An excellent result for Ineos, which experienced a Giro marked by complications, as its captain, the British Geraint Thomas, considered the main favorite, withdrew after a fall at the beginning of the Pink Race.

Ineos took 430,693 euros, including the prize of 5,000 euros (5,868 dollars) for winning the team classification and for stage victories, which are worth 500 euros each.

However, the UAE team, Tour de France champion thanks to the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar, pocketed almost 200,000 euros more (234,740 dollars) compared to the prizes awarded by the Giro.

Sunweb, which arrived at the final time trial with Hindley as the pink jersey, had to settle for second place and won a total of 278,093 euros (326,394 dollars), 133,412 of them (156,584) thanks to the performances of the Australian and 68,801 (80,750) thanks to the Dutch Wilco Kelderman, who finished third.

Good performances for Deceunick Quick Step, who pocketed 145,507 euros (170,780 dollars) and had the Portuguese Joao Almeida as their great protagonist. The Portuguese wore the pink jersey for fifteen days and contributed to two-thirds of his team's earnings. (D)
