Players of Club Olimpia issue a statement regarding recent events
The team of players of Club Olimpia, together with the members of the Technical Staff, issued a statement through their captain Roque Santa Cruz, regarding the recent events where Marco Trovato, now former president of the institution, was banned for life by FIFA for match-fixing.
"As members of the professional team of players and technical staff of Club Olimpia, we emphatically reject the voices that intend to overshadow the sporting results we have achieved in recent years. Results that, categorically and decisively, we won on the field, with professionalism and respect for the rules of the game," states the first part of the statement.
They also expressed solidarity with the players who were implicated in the match-fixing issue, claiming that their names were unjustly tarnished.
Furthermore, they backed former president Trovato. "We always saw him working tirelessly and with deep love for the club," they add.
Lastly, they call for calm and peace. "We make a plea for peace. It is time to set aside all pride, ambition, and differences in order to unite efforts to improve Paraguayan football," they conclude.
