Mateo Larrea to Replace Juan Sebastián Zabala in Tennis Exhibition Tournament
The junior player Mateo Larrea will replace Juan Sebastián Zabala in the Nicolás Febres-Cordero Ribadeneyra Tennis Exhibition Tournament, which will take place from this Thursday in Ballenita (Santa Elena) and will last until next Saturday, as detailed by the Press Department of the Ecuadorian Federation of this sport.
Larrea, a 15-year-old from Guayaquil and ranked 1599 in the ITF junior ranking, will take Zabala's place, who will travel to the United States to start his college career.
In 2019, Mateo Larrea won the title of the II Cosat Masters Tournament in the 14-year-old category, held in Guayaquil. With this achievement, he formed part of the Cosat team that participated in the Copa America in Orlando (United States), where they won the championship. He also had an outstanding performance in the European Tour that year.
Meanwhile, Luis Adrián Morejón, the tournament organizer, confirmed that the quarterfinals will take place this Thursday starting at 10:00 am. The first semifinal will be played on Friday, August 28th, starting at 09:30 am, followed by the second semifinal. The final will take place the next day starting at 12:30 pm.
The organization announced that the semifinals and final games will be broadcasted by DirecTV.
The confirmed players for the tournament are the Davis Cup players: Emilio Gómez (151 in the ATP ranking), Roberto Quiroz (277 ATP), Gonzalo Escobar (431 in singles and 69 in doubles), and Diego Hidalgo (365 ATP); and the juniors: Álvaro Guillén (242), Alexander Zederbauer, and Ángel Díaz.

Yesterday, the quarterfinal matches were defined. Othmar Moyano, the tournament referee, confirmed that the opening match of the tennis event will be the match between Emilio Gómez and Mateo Larrea, starting at 10:00 am.
Then, Diego Hidalgo will face Álvaro Guillén, followed by the matches between Gonzalo Escobar vs. Alexander Zederbauer, and Roberto Quiroz vs. Ángel Díaz.
The winner of the match between Gómez and Larrea will face the winner between Hidalgo and Guillén in the first semifinal on Friday. The winners between Escobar vs. Zederbauer and Quiroz vs. Díaz will face each other in the second semifinal.
The tournament, which will bring together the Davis Cup players and the four best junior players in the country, aims to discover the future figures that will make up the national Davis Cup team. (D)
