Former APF President Juan Ángel Napout Tests Positive for COVID-19

The former president of the Paraguayan Soccer Association (APF), the South American Confederation (Conmebol), and former FIFA vice president, Juan Ángel Napout, has tested positive for coronavirus.

He is currently in a Miami prison serving a 9-year sentence for the FIFA Gate case and contracted the virus within the facility, where a hundred cases have also been reported among inmates.

The information was confirmed by the family's lawyer, José Ignacio González Macchi, who refrained from giving further details about the 62-year-old former executive's health condition.

The family's lawyers had recently requested Napout's "compassionate release," citing his hypertension and the possibility of contracting COVID-19, which is still uncontrolled in the United States. The request was rejected by the US justice system, keeping him in prison since December 2015.
