Cormier stated that the Prosecutor's demand is based on unfounded purposes that do not correspond to reality.

"It is no surprise, the Prosecutor of the Republic has been very involved in this matter, it is evident, so we expected him to request a trial, although the accusations do not rest on reality," said Cormier, who had not yet informed his client, who was in the middle of training when the news broke.

Benzema has been involved in this controversial matter for several years after Matthieu Valbuena reported in 2015 that he was being blackmailed with the existence of a sexually explicit video in which he appeared, and they threatened to make it public.

The Real Madrid forward, whose career in the French national team has been hindered by this story, twice turned to the Justice system in hopes of burying the accusation that pursued him, but the Supreme Court definitively rejected it in December.

The magistrates of the highest judicial institution considered that the investigators did not exceed the legitimate limits to obtain evidence of his involvement, contrary to what the player claimed.
