The coaching staff of the Peruvian National Team requested the INPE to perform COVID-19 screening tests on Edwin Oviedo. Through a statement, Ricardo Gareca, Sergio Santín, and Nestor Bonillo expressed their concern about the reports of the possible contagion of the former president of the FPF.
"We express our concern following the statements of certain media regarding the possible contagion of COVID-19 to Mr. Edwin Oviedo. Under this scenario, we request the penitentiary authorities to carry out the necessary medical tests on Edwin Oviedo to rule out the COVID-19 contagion and, if necessary, provide him with the treatment recommended by the medical authorities," the statement signed by the coaching staff of the Peruvian national team states.
"We are very respectful of Peruvian judicial resolutions, so this is exclusively a humanitarian request, which is completely unrelated and independent of Mr. Edwin Oviedo's legal situation," the text adds.
Edwin Oviedo was the president of the Peruvian Football Federation from December 18, 2014, to December 7, 2018. Currently, the former director of Juan Aurich is in preventive prison in the Picsi de Chiclayo prison for the case of 'Los Wachiturros' in Tumán
