The Paranaense midfielder Luis 'Lucho' González believes Gabriel Heinze capable of coaching Argentina
The Athletico Paranaense midfielder Luis 'Lucho' González, who has played for the Argentine national team, Huracán, River Plate, Porto, and Olympique de Marseille, among other teams, said on Tuesday that his former teammate Gabriel Heinze is capable of coaching the national team.
"I am very happy with everything he is experiencing as a coach, with everything he was able to teach at the clubs he was at. I don't think there will be any players who have had him as a coach that will speak ill of him," 'Lucho' said in an interview with TyC Sports.
Heinze made his coaching debut in 2015 with Godoy Cruz, in 2017 he achieved promotion to the First Division with Argentinos Juniors, and in 2018 he took over Vélez, which was fighting relegation, and left them in a zone to qualify for the next Copa Libertadores.
"I see him as fully capable of coaching the Argentine national team because he is someone who has already experienced and knows internally what that means. And because of what he has already demonstrated as a coach," González said about 'El Gringo', who resigned from Vélez at the beginning of this year.
Heinze, who as a player played for clubs like Newell's Old Boys, Paris Saint Germain, Real Madrid, and Manchester United, won the gold medal with Argentina at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and played in the 2006 Germany and 2010 South Africa World Cups, where he was González's teammate.
The veteran Paranaense midfielder also praised Marcelo Bielsa, whom he said has been "the best coach" in his career.
"Bielsa was the coach who gave me the opportunity to play for the Argentine national team, something I will not forget. Afterwards, because of his concepts, ideas, and what he teaches, he leaves an incredible learning experience. I have him tattooed on my leg. I decided to do it after he let England score a goal when they had a player down," he explained.
