"My father continues to be stable and responding well to treatment. The passing of the days makes us optimistic. Those of us who have spoken to him have heard him much better. However, the doctors who are treating him set the pace," wrote the son of the former football player on his Twitter account.
The 75-year-old goalkeeper was admitted "for a case of bilateral pneumonia that was confirmed to be caused by this virus," according to his son.
Considered one of the best goalkeepers in the history of Argentine football, Gatti was born on August 19, 1944, and his first team, in the early 1960s, was Atlanta, from where he was transferred to River Plate.
He later played for Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, Unión de Santa Fe, and Boca Juniors, where he played from 1976 to 1988 and had his most glorious stage.
He participated in 18 matches with the Albiceleste and retired as a player at the age of 44.
