Sailors Diana Tudela and María Pía van Oordt have qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
The list keeps growing. Sailors Diana Tudela and Maria Pia van Oordt joined the list of Peruvians who qualified for the Olympic Games. We now have 15 athletes who have secured a spot at Tokyo 2020.
Maria Pia van Oordt and Diana Tudela, who sailed together in the 49er Fx class, obtained their Olympic qualification at the world championship held in New Zealand.
"This is our first year sailing this boat and we have invested a lot of time training on it; this qualification motivates us to keep giving our best and preparing as much as possible," van Oordt said to Diario Récord Perú.
Maria Pia shared details of her journey in the tournament which allowed her to achieve her Olympic dream.
"We qualified through the regional quota that was up for grabs at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. Here at the world championship, the last qualifying events took place and continental quotas were assigned," she stated.
Finally, the national athlete made a promise in the air, "We are very happy and willing to give our all at Tokyo 2020!" she affirmed.
