Footballer shot in Buenos Aires
"I am really sad and afraid for my future, for not being able to see anymore, all I want is to see light, see something, see my son, my family, my mom, all my friends," said Salinas, 22, in statements to the TN channel.
The footballer, who will have to undergo a new operation in which doctors will try to preserve the state of the eye that they still do not consider lost, recounted what happened on Monday night, when he was with friends when he was surprised by the shots of some strangers.
"We approached there to find another common friend, we sat for less than a minute and I received the first impact and the second impact, I was already crawling on the floor to be able to save myself, I actually thought I was dead," said Salinas.
He asserted that he did not see "anyone" nor knew "where" the shots were coming from, for which he has already lost one eye although the doctors gave him "a little more strength" when they told him that he can still save the other one.
The incident occurred on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, in a humble neighborhood of La Matanza municipality, where the player asserted that situations like the one he suffered from occur "quite often".
"The neighborhood needs help, not just me, the truth is that it is a very complicated area (...). It can't be that they go around in stolen cars, stolen motorcycles, the police only bother humble people instead of going and getting into those areas, those places, where they really need to go," he explained.
Salinas, defender, belongs to Argentinos Juniors, although he was part of the first team of Arsenal, another club in the Argentine Superliga.
"I wanted to thank the club, the footballers' union and all the people who approach to provide economic support," he emphasized.
Salinas indicated that the doctors have not talked to him about the future possibilities of his sports career, but said that his dream "still is" that his family and friends can see him have fun "on a football field".
