Celta de Vigo officially announced on Monday the signing of Óscar García Junyent as the coach of the first team until the end of the season, after Fran Escribá was dismissed on Sunday after his team's fourth defeat against Getafe CF in Balaídos.

The former footballer will debut as a coach in LaLiga. Previously, he has been at Maccabi Tel Aviv, Brighton, Watford, Red Bull Salzburg, Saint-Étienne, and Olympiacos. He is the fifth coach with a Barcelona past to arrive at Celta, following Hristo Stoichkov, Eusebio Sacristán, Luis Enrique, and Juan Carlos Unzué.
