President of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, spoke about the possibility of implementing VAR for the qualifying matches for Qatar 2022, which will start on March 26, 2022.

"The Council agrees to have VAR in the qualifiers," he said in an interview with the radio program Fútbol a lo Grande. One of the reasons to include VAR is that it has already been used in the Copa Libertadores.

Despite the controversial use in the Copa América Brasil 2019, the implementation of VAR in various football tournaments would make the use of video refereeing be used in the qualifiers.

At the moment, there is no defined fixture for the qualifiers. They will take place on December 3 in Cartagena, Colombia, where the draw for the groups of the Copa América 2020, which will be jointly hosted by Colombia and Argentina, will also take place.
