María Belén Bazo will participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics

The Peruvian athlete, and medalist in the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, secured one of the nine available spots for next year's competition during the RS:X Windsurf World Championship.

"I am very happy with my result. Now I can focus 100% on the Tokyo 2020 Olympics," said 21-year-old Bazo in statements collected by the IPD portal.

"Thank you very much to my entire team on the road to Tokyo 2020. We have been working very hard for several months and all the effort is paying off. None of this would be possible without the great support of my coach, my family, my friends, my sponsors," she added.

María Belén Bazo, with her confirmed qualification for the Olympics, will continue participating in the World Championship in Italy to "improve my result and climb positions."
