The Departure of Hernán Darío Gómez from the Ecuador National Team

Hernán Darío Gómez's departure from the Ecuador National Team is not yet official, but it is already decided. No one at the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) denies it anymore. Now everything is a matter of the agreement they reach, but President Francisco Egas announced that it will be soon.

As soon as this Wednesday could be. The FEF has called a press conference for 3:00 pm. But today, when asked about the meeting he had with 'Bolillo' last Friday, Egas left no room for doubt: the Colombian will not continue with the national team.

"The meeting we had on Friday was very cordial, with a lot of willingness from both parties, and I believe we will reach an agreement very soon," commented Egas at Ecuafútbol, where an agreement was signed in favor of women's soccer.

The agreement, continued Egas, "is to avoid any kind of legal problems in the future."

And he clarified that the priority is "to take care of the Federation's economy. We are going through complicated times due to the inheritance we received... Any imbalance caused by an early termination (of Gómez's contract) will have an impact."

"'Bolillo' has been very willing" in the negotiation to terminate his contract with the FEF, said the president.

70% of the National Team Needs to Be Changed

Gómez's departure would cost the FEF $4,541,082, which is the total value of his contract until 2022, and that expense would further increase the institution's crisis, which has losses from the previous administration – Carlos Villacís – of $5.8 million.
