Copa América 2019: the missing superstars in the tournament, led by Claudio Pizarro [VIDEO]

Jueves 27 de Junio del 2019

Today the quarterfinals of the Copa America began and, although it started with a great match between Brazil and Paraguay, there were significant absences in the 'Canarinha'.

Today the quarterfinals of the Copa America 2019 began. The twelve teams arrived with their best players to reach the final of the tournament. However, there were big absences, especially in the Brazilian team, although it didn't affect their collective performance. Peru also left out a great player, who else was missing?

The host team had major absences before the official list of players for the continental tournament was released. Brazil's coach, Tite, left out players like Marcelo, David Luiz, Fabinho, Douglas Costa, Lucas Moura, and Vinicius Junior, as well as Neymar after his injury.

Argentina also had to leave some players out, such as Sergio Romero (World Cup runner-up) and Cristian Pavon (played in Russia 2018). Meanwhile, the Chilean team chose not to call up the legendary goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, as well as Marcelo Diaz and Eugenio Mena, who are two-time Copa America champions.

Claudio Pizarro was one of the big absences in the Peruvian team. The 'Andean Bomber' is no longer part of the Peruvian National Team with Ricardo Gareca's arrival. Although the Argentine coach considers the Werder Bremen forward as a player of great stature, he chose to give a chance to the players who stood out in the 2018 World Cup.

The Peruvian National Team will face Uruguay this Saturday, June 29, at 2:00 p.m. at the Arena Pernambuco, in the quarterfinals. Ricardo Gareca would have André Carrillo in mind for the starting eleven after Jefferson Farfan's abrupt exit due to his knee injury.
