When all seemed lost for Colombia in their match against England in the Round of 16 of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Yerry Mina appeared. The central defender from Barcelona, who is currently Colombia's top scorer in the World Cup, scored his third goal in the competition in the 92nd minute of the match to equalize and force extra time.
Initially, Harry Kane had given England the lead with a penalty in the 57th minute. From then on, Colombia tried every way to find the equalizer but they faced a solid defense with a very complete goalkeeper in Jordan Pickford. Also, their lack of efficiency in front of goal prevented them from equalizing on more than one occasion.
However, the minutes of injury time arrived and a powerful shot from Mateus Uribe from outside the box, which was looking like one of the best goals of Russia 2018, was deflected by Pickford and Colombia won a corner kick. That's when Yerry Mina connected with Juan Cuadrado's cross, won the aerial duel against Harry Maguire, and headed the ball against the ground. Although the ball was directed towards the post being guarded by Kieran Trippier, the ball bounced high and the English full-back couldn't prevent it from going into the net. In this way, José Néstor Pékerman's team stayed alive and awaited the opportunity to reverse the score in extra time.
