E-sports gaining ground over traditional sports
E-sports are starting to gain ground over traditional sports. Asia has the largest number of professional video game players and as demanded by the public, 6 titles will be present at the Asian Games.
Through an official statement, the International Olympic Committee announced the inclusion of League of Legends, Stacraft, Hearthstone, Pro Evolution Soccer (PES 2018), Clash Royale, and Arena of Valor among the competitions.
The event will have the support of Riot Games, developers of LoL, for the selection of players who will represent each country, as well as for providing the basis for the tournament organization. 45 countries will participate in the qualifiers starting in June, Indonesia, as the host country, will have a guaranteed spot.
Only League of Legends has more than 100 million active players each month and has earned a place as an example to follow in e-sports. In Peru alone, more than 4,000 spectators gathered to watch the final of the CLS, the regional competition of the video game.
