The Playa Costa Verde Circuit was the setting for the Ironman 70.3, where around a thousand athletes from different countries competed: one of the most extreme competitions in the world that combines swimming (1.9 km), running (21 km), and cycling (90 km).
Cyril Viennot was the winner of the Ironman 70.3 in Lima. After completing the course in 3 hours 47 minutes 19 seconds, he reached the finish line at Agua Dulce Beach, Costa Verde. Following him were Andy Potts from the USA (3h47m49s) and Argentine Mario De Elias (3h49m57s).
In the women's category, American Sarah Piampiano (4h15m08s) won the gold medal. Kirsty Jhan (4h16m16s) and Kelsey Withrow (4h21m) finished in second and third place, respectively.
Peruvian presence
450 athletes from Peru participated in the event. Andrés Chirinos was the only professional, but an accident forced him to abandon the race. Notable performances among the locals include Christopher Portugal (4h13m29s), Vladimir Figari (4h21m44s), Salvador Ruiz (4h24m06s), and Carlos Glave (04h24m36s).
