The Association of Basketball Clubs sanctions Temperley
The Association of Basketball Clubs, the organization that governs the National League (top division) and the Argentine League (second division, formerly known as TNA), has disqualified Temperley due to repeated incidents. As a result, Temperley will lose its category and will not participate in the relegation playoffs against Gimnasia and Echagüe de Paraná, which were scheduled to start tomorrow. Therefore, Gimnasia will continue playing in the Argentine League and maintain its category.
In an interview with this newspaper, the basketball director José Luis Staiano confirmed that "we, as a club, did not remain inactive and submitted various letters together with Echagüe, requesting that the sanctions against Temperley be enforced this season, which has finally happened."
What was Temperley's offense according to the ADC? The institution was suspended for 200 days due to the numerous previous sanctions against the basketball director Hernán Lewin, who repeatedly insulted referees, received expulsions, and failed to comply with subsequent sanctions. As a result of this situation, Centro Español was declared the winner of the playoff series in the Argentine League.
ADC DIRECTIVE BOARD STATEMENT
After publishing the resolution against Temperley, detailing the case files, the "Honorable Disciplinary Tribunal" issued a statement explaining all the decisions on a convulsive Wednesday. "The Directive Board decided to suspend Temperley's affiliation for 200 days due to the numerous previous sanctions against the basketball director Hernán Lewin, who repeatedly insulted referees, received expulsions, and failed to comply with subsequent sanctions," the statement begins.
"As a consequence of this same ruling, the ADC Directive Board decided to suspend the playoff series for relegation between Atlético Echagüe Club de Paraná and Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata on this Wednesday. Thus, both teams maintain their category," continues the statement, stating that Gimnasia will continue for another season in the second division of national basketball, just like the Paraná team.
In the Directive Board meeting were President Fabián Borro, Vice President 1st Gerardo Montenegro, Vice President 2nd Eduardo Tassano, Treasurer Andrés Pelussi, Secretary Néstor Chaves, Technical Secretary Sergio Guerrero, and director Patricio López Islas. In addition, the members of the professional staff also presented the current situation of each area.
TEMPERLEY PLAYERS EXPRESS THEIR DISAGREEMENT
Upon learning about the sanction, the Temperley basketball players issued a statement. "We want to express our disagreement with the ruling, as it prevents us from competing in a stage that we earned through sports achievement," the statement begins.
In another passage, they state: "There is a political background, which we are not going to delve into details about. But we all know that in recent years, more serious things have happened and they have not been treated equally."
