Sergio 'Checo' Pérez Hopes for First Points in China

Mexican driver Sergio 'Checo' Pérez (Force India) said he hopes to finally score his first points of the season in China, after finishing sixteenth in Bahrain due to technical issues and not achieving a good result in Australia, where he finished eleventh.

"In Bahrain, we had bad luck. All our simulations indicated that we could enter the points, that an eighth position was possible, but luck played a bad trick on us," noted the driver, who missed out on points in Australia as well.

For China, our first goal is to fight to "get closer to the midfield group" and "start scoring, since we haven't been able to earn points in the first two races," commented the Mexican driver in a press conference.

The 28-year-old driver endured a troubled race at the Sakhir circuit, as he was hit from behind in the first lap by New Zealander Brendon Hartley (Toro Rosso), causing him to spin and damage his car.

"Usually, I perform well in qualifying in Shanghai, but in the race, for one reason or another, an excellent result hasn't come. I hope that this weekend can be the one," said the driver, who is entering his eighth season in Formula One and his fifth with the current team, with whom he has achieved four of his seven podium finishes.

About the Shanghai circuit, a track with 16 corners and the longest straight of the season (1.17 kilometers), Pérez explained that it is a track "very demanding on the front end of the car."

"It has very long corners that are certainly challenging and where the greatest tire degradation occurs," he pointed out.
