Time is running out, but he feels confident enough to achieve it. Cristian Benavente wants to secure a spot in the final list of the Peruvian National Team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia at all costs. However, he will only have one last chance on Tuesday against Iceland.
"I don't know if I'm going to start, we have to wait. Every game is a test, it has been a year and a half since I last came and obviously it's important to me because there are no more matches to prove that I can be there. This is my last opportunity to go to Russia," he said.

Cristian Benavente explained that despite feeling good about his performance against Croatia, the plans changed with Yoshimar Yotun's expulsion.
"I played for 25 minutes. Then we had to defend because we were down to 10 players, but I felt good playing for the Peruvian National Team again. Gareca asks me to play as I do in my club, behind the striker. When I moved to the side, I had to help in defense and attack when we had the opportunity," he commented.
"It's not difficult for me to fit in with the group. I have known the guys for a long time. I don't worry about that. I have to play as I know how. I have been having a good year, with continuity and goals. I would like to continue being part of it," Cristian Benavente concluded.
