AJ Styles came out victorious on Sunday, after Fastlane 2018. Despite having to face five other challengers, he retained the WWE title. He will defend it at WrestleMania 34 against Shinsuke Nakamura.
John Cena, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Baron Corbin, and Dolph Ziggler came very close to winning the WWE championship, but they couldn't take it from the champion.
John Cena was the closest to winning the WWE title for the 17th time. AJ Styles covered John Cena and that's how he took the victory.
Thus, AJ Styles confirms his place at WrestleMania 34. He will now have to face Shinsuke Nakamura, who earned his spot by winning the Royal Rumble.
With this achievement, AJ Styles is the 11th wrestler who has had multiple reigns that have lasted more than 100 days each. He is the only WWE champion, along with Bruno Sammartino and Randy Savage, who has been able to surpass this amount of time.

AJ Styles is considered by many WWE fans as the best wrestler on the planet. And tonight (7:00 pm / FOX Action), the 'Phenomenal' has a good opportunity to prove them right at the highly anticipated Fastlane 2018.
In what will be the main event of Fastlane 2018 in Ohio, AJ Styles will put his WWE world title on the line against five powerful opponents: John Cena, Baron Corbin, Dolph Ziggler, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn.
Note that AJ Styles doesn't need to be pinned to lose the WWE championship. In this type of match (Six-Pack challenge), it is enough for one wrestler to defeat another in the ring to win the match and also the title.
In the weeks leading up to Fastlane, it was believed that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn could join forces to emerge victorious. But the unexpected betrayal of 'Generico' to 'KO' in the last SmackDown may have changed the plans.
