Ukrainians Alexandra Nazarova and Maxim Nikitin decided to dance in Mexican style on the ice rink of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, and in their short dance program, they chose to do it to the rhythm of the huapango "Cucurrucucú paloma", a song immortalized by Pedro Infante and Lola Beltrán.

During the first ice dance test, the Ukrainians chose this famous song and choreography that they had already performed in 2017.

This piece written by Tomás Méndez from Zacatecas in 1954 is so popular that it has been used in several films, highlighting last year's Oscar winner, Moonlight.

Huapango is a genre exclusive to Mexico, which has various variations depending on the region in which it is interpreted.
