In an untelevised show held by NXT in Daytona, Florida, a Royal Rumble was held to determine the next challenger for the NXT Championship held by Andrade "Cien" Almas, where the winner turned out to be his fellow countryman Raul Mendoza, who will face El Ídolo for the gold tomorrow in the city of Orlando.

Mendoza managed to come out victorious when he eliminated Steve Cutler. However, his happiness would not last long, as the champion of the yellow brand, along with Zelina Vega, arrived to give him a message: "If he could defeat Drew McIntyre and Johnny Gargano, he can also defeat him."
This is the first title opportunity that Mendoza obtained in his time in WWE. Expectations remain high due to the great match that Andrade had with Gargano, which earned him 5 stars from Dave Meltzer.
