Animal Defense Makes News in Peru and the World

The defense of animals is making news both in Peru and around the world. While here it has generated controversy due to its results regarding the case of the chifa in Independencia, in the distant Pyeongchang, South Korea, where the 2018 Winter Olympics are about to take place, their forms of manifestation have been more friendly, although they have not stopped attracting attention.

This is how young Ashley Fruno, from the animal rights organization PETA, decided to go outdoors to raise awareness against the use of animal fur, using nothing but a bikini in the -8 degrees temperature currently registered in the area.

"Well, we are against all animal cruelty and since the weather is very cold today, we want to encourage people to stay warm without using fur. It's certainly cold out there, but it's nothing compared to what animals go through in fur farms," said the activist.

The young woman remained for about 15 minutes, wrapped up only in a hat with rabbit ears, gloves, and a tail (in addition to the bikini and her own skin, of course). According to PETA, China is the largest producer of fur and animals are forced to live in miserable conditions until the end.

"China is the largest producer of fur and according to our investigations, you can find rabbits and other animals in small and narrow cages, and at the end of their miserable lives, they are hung upside down and slaughtered," said the group's spokesman, Jason Baker.

"So the idea today is a fun and resounding way to talk about a serious message, which is animal suffering," he added. Despite everything, they could not prove that human skin is very effective in protecting against extreme cold.
