Christian Cueva will continue to be excluded from the Sao Paulo starting lineup. This was confirmed by a club official after a meeting with the player. Initially, it was expected that after the conversation, the Peruvian midfielder would reappear on Wednesday in the Copa do Brasil match.
The national midfielder held a meeting with football executive director Raí and president Carlos Augusto de Barros e Silva. The rebellious behavior that Christian Cueva showed a few days ago did not please the Sao Paulo board, but they were aware of the player's importance to the team. Everything led to believe that there would be a reconciliation between both parties.
"By decision of the board, he will still not be in the Copa do Brasil match," said Raí in a press conference. "The conversations were optimal and direct. We hope that this will lead to some result, have some effect," added the Sao Paulo executive.
They will wait
Far from assuming that the relationship has been completely broken, Raí clarified that Christian Cueva has an active contract. "He is a Sao Paulo player, he has a contract, but that commitment is important from these conversations onwards. We will see how it evolves," emphasized the executive.
