Paris SG's young star Kylian Mbappé leaves the field injured
Paris SG and French national team's young star Kylian Mbappé was taken off the field on a stretcher after being knocked out following a violent collision with Lyon's goalkeeper Anthony Lopes on Sunday during the 22nd matchday of Ligue 1.
After half an hour of play, Italian midfielder Marco Verratti sent a deep pass to Mbappé, who found himself face to face with Lopes. The Portuguese goalkeeper cleared the ball but also collided with Mbappé, without the referee sanctioning a foul. Mbappé remained lying on the ground, face down, and was eventually carried off the field on a stretcher, visibly shaken.
He was replaced by German midfielder Julian Draxler in the 36th minute, with Lyon leading 1-0.
The 19-year-old player had suffered another collision minutes earlier in an aerial duel with Houssem Aouar (21), which caused a head wound.
Lyon ended up winning 2-1 against the French league leaders and climbed to second place in the tournament. Fekir and Depay scored for the home team, while Kurzawa scored for PSG.
Mbappé had already suffered a severe concussion when playing for Monaco in August 2016, which caused him to miss the first part of the previous season, although he ended up becoming the star of the French champions.
This incident comes with less than a month before the round of 16 match of the Champions League between Real Madrid and PSG (first leg on February 14th at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium).
