2017 ends for Cody after an unexpected defeat against Dalton Castle at Final Battle, also losing the ROH World Championship in the process. But the son of Dusty Rhodes
will start 2018 with a promising match against Kota Ibushi at Wrestle Kingdom 12, in addition to the upcoming All In project, an independent event that aims to gather 10 thousand fans and counts on Daniel Bryan's support.
How does Cody plan to fill 10 thousand seats? Wrestling against Daniel Bryan
Paradoxically, sometimes you need to leave WWE to succeed, and since leaving the company last year, there have been several rumors about his possible return. "The American Nightmare" has always shown great satisfaction for finding his own path, and thus, he seems to have declined to participate in the recent Starrcade alongside his brother Goldust.
The latest question about this possibility came today, and Cody, via Twitter, responded clearly to a fan's interest.
I had a great run. Met my wife. Made the Mania' walk a bunch of times. Got a chance to see Dad's last elbow. Won a bunch of titles. Made millions without a college education.
but I'm happy where I'm at and where this is going. 2018 will be the most important year of my career. https://t.co/G32flxqPXc

A similar refusal, but now Cody looks back more kindly, as he expressed resentment in previous statements for his lack of relevance. Stardust, contrary to his intentions, was a huge step back in his aspirations for success, and leaving it behind when he joined the independent circuit, was perhaps the best decision the former WWE Intercontinental Champion has made in his career.
Despite everything, Richard Gray already considered that sooner or later, Cody will return to the product where he debuted as a professional wrestler, a decade ago. But before that, who knows what new accomplishments he will achieve outside of the McMahon territory.
