Puerto Rican fighter Román "Rocky" Martínez (29-3-3, 17 KO) has not yet said goodbye to the ring as he hopes to have a fight in 2018. Martínez said he hopes to have an opportunity to make his return against Raymundo Beltrán (34-7-1, 21 KO).

Beltrán already has a date, venue, and title to fight for. It will be on February 3, 2018, at the Bank of America Center in Corpus Christi, Texas, and for the vacant OMB Lightweight World Championship.

Martínez hopes to be the opponent to revive the endless battles between Puerto Rico and Mexico. He had other plans for his return to the ring in December, but due to Hurricane Maria, he has been busy with his family and had to endure.

"I thought about coming back in December, but it won't be possible. I'm still considering an opportunity at 135 pounds, and if it's for a title, even better. I haven't stopped working in case that opportunity arises, although I can't deny that an opportunity I would love would be against Ray Beltrán. Nothing better than coming back with a battle between Puerto Rico and Mexico."

"Right now, Beltrán is number one, and I would really love to fight him and have that opportunity. Plus, he's the cousin of Miguel Beltrán Jr., who I've already beaten once. The last time "Rocky" was in action was when he lost by knockout in the fifth round on June 11, 2016, against Vasyl Lomachenko.

On the other hand, Beltrán comes from defeating Bryan Vásquez on August 5 by majority decision.

Beltrán has an advantage in terms of active time. If the fight takes place, he would have only been without fights for 6 months. Meanwhile, Martínez has been without a fight for 1 year and 8 months, which means he has taken on a lot of rust during that time. It remains to be seen how the fight turns out if it becomes official, as both are warriors in the ring.
