Thousands of Peruvian fans arrived at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington to support the 'Blanquirroja' in their first match against the New Zealand national team for the World Cup 2018 playoff spot. Countrymen arrived from New Zealand, Australia, Asian countries, and the United States.
Peru has not been to a World Cup since 1982 in Spain, so millions of Peruvians maintain hope of seeing the National Team in a World Cup. Some traveled from Lima to Auckland, which takes more than 18 hours with layovers.
National support. Some fans arrived at the stadium with drums and percussion instruments, however, they mentioned to RPP that they are not allowed to bring these instruments inside the stadium. Nevertheless, they assured that they will not stop singing and supporting the team led by coach Ricardo Gareca.
